CLOSET RAID: Little Miss BlackWORDS BY RONIT PINTO Nearly 15 years ago Sarah Black started a printing and design company in downtown Detroit. Opening its doors in 1997, she and business partner Jason Hulce have since turned Klever Design and Printing into one of the most successful companies of its kind in the city. Servicing clients from the high-end to the underground, including good chunk of Detroit’s music scene, they have built their reputation of providing "premium quality work at competitive prices, while providing exceptional levels of personal service,” she described. Some who rely on Klever’s innovative graphics and high-quality printing include the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (Mocad); Paxahau, the producers of ‘Movement’ (Detroit’s annual electronic music formerly known as DEMF); and LiveNation. A self-taught graphic designer and entrepreneur, Sarah also has a passion for fashion. Known for her individual style, a chic mix of modern and vintage, we captured her in her downtown loft in her wardrobe.
To many in the city Sarah is an inspiration, with doe-like beauty and business savvy brains. To us she is an ingénue, an intrigue, a muse.
